Dear Cinderella and Prince Charming,

Are you tall, legally single, and posses a certain natural charm? Has your mother told you that you're a catch? Well, do we have the role of a lifetime for you!

If you're a member in good standing of the Portland Skyliners Tall Club as of September 2009, we want you to run for Miss Tall Portland or Mr. Tall Portland. We really do. You'd make an excellent spokesperson and I bet you have a great parade wave. All you have to do is fill out the application by December 31, 2009. Then, you'll have until March to work out your pageant presentation with your Fairy Godmother. Once you sweep them off their feet at the local pageant, then you'll be on your way to represent the club at TCI's annual convention in New Orleans next June 26.

Not sure if you've got what it takes? Wonder how to acquire fairy tale levels of self-confidence? You may be surprised to hear that many former queens and kings were shy, self-conscious types before they discovered their inner royalty. How did they do it? They turned in an application, and wished upon a star. Bibbidy-bobbidy-just-like-that!

The form can be downloaded from the members-only page of http://www.tall.org/clubs/or/portland/. Mail your application to the post office box or give it to your Vice-President at the Christmas Party. Remember, this offer turns into a pumpkin December 31!

Saturday night karaoke!

We once again had lots of fun at the Skyliner's Saturday Night Karaoke event. Lets is food, drinks and singing.... not all good singing but always a bundle of fun! Gresham, Oregon 2009 Teddy Bear Parade

Last week, the Skyliners where part of the Gresham Teddy Bear Parade. We also used the occasion to post a few more videos on the Skyliner's YouTube channel. In the clip below, Dana interviews Ms Tall International and Ms Tall Portland at the end of the parade. This is also the first clip uploaded with the Skyliner's logo at the front of the video, just part of making things a little better each time.

The Members Only Page

Hopefully, after last month's column, you went online to take a look at our website. While you were there, you probably wondered how to log in to the members only section and what mysterious wonders lay behind that password-protected door. This month, I'm going to give you a short tour of this useful section.

What exactly, is stored on the members only page? Currently, it hosts all electronic newsletters from the last year, applications, and sign in sheets. What could be hosted here? Any documents we'd like to share with members (such as the membership roster) that we don't want the whole world wide web to see.

To access the page, locate the yellow log in box on the main page http://www.tall.org/clubs/or/portland/index.html of the website. Scroll down below our contact info if you can't see it. After you enter the password, make sure you click your mouse on the "submit" button. It will not load if you hit the enter/return button on your keyboard. Once you're in, you simply click on any blue link text to download the documents of your choice. Depending on your browser preferences, they may open in a new web page, open in another application, or save to your downloads folder. You may need to download a .pdf viewer such as Adobe Reader.

Sounds great! What's the password again? The password will be changed with this year's membership renewal date, September 1. The ONLY way to get this new password is to renew your dues. Once your payment is received and your membership approved, our membership chair will send you the password in an email. The password is the same for everyone, so please do not share it with non-members. If you have misplaced your renewal form, you can download a new one here.

Holli complimented by local security

Holli just told me a good story. Today she went to Fred Meyer's after work with her professional dress and 2 inch heels (that is 6"6' for people counting). This lady, the African-American security guard stopped her at the entrance and said (with an African American accent) "Girrrrllllll.... You are one TALL beautiful woman.". - y

Updated the YouTube channel

We have been updating the YouTube channel and the picture album with more fun party material. Lots of activities this weekend, we went to a parade. On a separate note, our queen Holli survived the 6-bridge Portland Bridge Pedal this morning.

Saw Matt Roloff at the airport.

I went to get Holli at the airport Sunday night, she was returning from Rochester New York. In any case, I was at the passenger arrival and 5 minutes before Holli arrived, I saw Matt Roloff go by. He is a famous little person from Oregon.

Staying up to date with the Skyliners online

This is the first of many tutorials I plan to publish here and in the club newsletter, Skylines.

Have you looked at our club website lately? There are several essential new features you may not be aware of. I'd like to introduce you to them here, and then go more in-depth with useful tutorials in upcoming issues. These tutorials will also be archived on the blog. It may seem overwhelming now, but you can't hurt anything by checking it out. Remember, our goal here is twofold: keep current members up to date and informed, and be easy to find and attractive to prospective members.

Members Only - As soon as you renew your membership this year, you'll be given access to download club newsletters, rosters, and more!

Calendar - Play around with the week, month, or agenda views until you find one that appeals to you. Clicking on events will give you options for viewing more details and even Google maps! I highly recommend you sign up for a Google Gmail account so you can add events from the club calendar to your personal online calendar.

Blog - I hope this will function as our online newsletter. Here we can post news, articles, TCI travel reports, and user comments. Blog posts can be archived and are searchable. Check back here for website tutorials. Your Gmail account makes it easy for you to comment and leave questions on our blog.

Photos - Check out the 54 photo albums in the Skyliners Picasa gallery. See some shots you like? Download them! Want prints of that great photo from the Christmas party? Order them from Photoworks, Snapfish, or Shutterfly! Please send photos to be included to portlandskyliners@gmail.com and let us know the name and date of your event.

Videos - Thanks so much to Ylian for keeping us up to date by uploading to our YouTube channel from convention! Here you can view all of his videos of club events.

Hot 4th of July in Hillsboro Parade

Today, we had both Miss Tall International and Miss Tall Portland in the 4th of July Hillsboro parade. It was very hot and we had to wake up early, but it was a lot of fun. We ran two cars, one for each queen. The parade was very animated, lots of candy being tossed around. We also posted pictures of the parade.

A week ago we celebrated summer south of Portland. It was lots of fun, lots of food and after sunset we gathered around the campfire.

TCI award ceremony

We went back into the tapes from the TCI convention and edited the award ceremony. The camera did not record everything because well, the award ceremony was a bit long, but what we did get on tape was edited and here it is!

Holli in Oregon Wine Country

This is not a Skyliners event, but Miss Tall International got to go wine tasting south or Portland in a long limo. It's was great fun for everyone. We of course, also make a video blog about it.

Updating Wikipedia

We updated the TCI and Miss TI wikipedia entries. Probably the most interesting update was a complete list of all the winners of Miss TI with their year, names, height, etc. There is probably a lot more information to be added by club members how know the history of the club.

TCI Convention - Day 4

Just posted the day 4 in review video of the TCI convention. After the last few intense days leading up to the Miss Tall International pageant, everyone was glad to get some sleep. Around 3pm, we headed to the Stratosphere Tower for dinner and a show. Our new Tall Queen along with our TCI president where both sufficiently crazy to try to sling shot ride on top of the tower. Video included.

Holli's Skit Pictures

In her skit, Holli (Miss Tall Portland) made a PowerPoint presentation and used a few funny pictures. We just uploaded them on the Skyliners photo album. There is bonus material here because two of the pictures where removed from the final presentation due to time.

New Miss Tall International

Well, we have a new Miss Tall International and it's from our very own club. We just posted a bunch of videos from yesterday's pageant. One daily report, one from Miss Tall Orange County, Two camera angles from Miss Tall Portland and the judges decision. All the videos are available on the Portland Skyliners Youtube Channel. Everyone is relaxing today, the last few days of practice and stress have been hard.

Heading over to Las Vegas

The Portland Skyliners are heading over to Las Vegas for Tall Club International Convention. Of course, the highlight will be the Miss Tall International pageant, but the week will be filled with activities and parties. It's my first time at the international convention, but for many of our club members, it's a regular event and something to look forward to. Well, I will be brining my computer and hope to be blogging and sending out videos on the Portland Skyliners YouTube channel.

New YouTube channel doing well

The new YouTube channel is doing very well, we posted many more videos from past TV appearances. One from Jane on AM Northwest is especially doing well with over 400 views in less than two days. If anyone from the group has more videos, please stand up! In general, this new channel will be a big encouragement to record more videos.

We keep improving the Skyliners YouTube channel. A few more videos got posted including this really nice one from the Portland Starlight Parade 2005. This was the big mobile cake. We also posted a set of other viewpoints from the same parade in a different video.

Skyliners at St-John's Parade

We just uploaded the pictures of the club at the St-John's parade this weekend. It was sunny and lots of fun and energy. This time around, Mr. Tall was walking in front which he likes best. A little girl ran out of the crowd to give him a hug, which was very surprising.



We also started a new Youtube channel with 3 videos of this weekend's parade. Lots more videos to come, we have piles of them to upload.

New Miss Tall Portland

We have not gotten around to changing the web page yet, but Portland has a new queen. Holli is the new miss tall Portland. Last weekend, she participated in her first parade in east Portland, it was a cold Saturday morning, but still a lot of fun. We started the parade with a bit of confusion as the mister tall and miss tall signs on the car where reversed. Well, it was promptly corrected. We posted a short video on YouTube I hope you enjoy it.
